This course will center on the development history of Asian visual design, guiding students to gain a deep understanding of the evolution and shifts in design movements in post-war Asia. The curriculum will explore in depth the influence of Western design on Asian design, showcasing how Asian designers absorbed and transformed Western design language amid globalization, ultimately developing unique design philosophies that reflect their own cultural identities.
This course will be divided into three parts, guiding students to gain an in-depth understanding of the cultural backgrounds and developmental contexts of design across different regions of Asia. 1.The course will focus on key designers from various Asian countries, exploring their design philosophies, styles, and concepts as expressed in specific nations and regions. This will allow students to appreciate the diversity and cultural characteristics of visual design in each area. 2.In the practical portion of the course, students will select a designer as a learning subject and create works based on that designer’s methods, concepts, and styles. This approach allows students to deeply experience and emulate the thought processes of master designers, thereby stimulating their own creativity. 3.The course will also invite design professionals with international learning experiences to share insights from their design education in different countries. This will help students understand the development and application of cross-cultural design thinking, broaden their perspectives, and cultivate an appreciation and understanding of the diversity within Asian design.
